Sought-after professions & requirements for the Blue Card
Germany is looking for qualified specialists – especially in so-called shortage occupations. These include:
- IT and software development
- Engineering and technology (e.g. mechanical engineering, electrical engineering)
- Health professions (e.g. nursing, medicine, pharmacy)
- Teachers and educational professionals
- Skilled trades with special qualifications
To receive a Blue Card, the following requirements must be met:
- A completed university degree or an equivalent qualification recognized in Germany
- A concrete job offer in Germany that matches the qualification
- A gross annual salary of at least €48.300 (or €43.800 in occupations with a shortage of skilled workers)
- Health insurance coverage and a valid passport
For IT specialists with at least three years of relevant professional experience, access without a university degree is even possible under certain conditions.
